Year 6 Explore the Wonders of Blood!
This week, Year 6 created their very own model of blood! Using a creative mix of everyday items—red food colouring, Cheerios, yellow food colouring, salt, pom poms, and mini marshmallows—students investigated the different components of blood and their functions.
Plasma was represented by water tinted with yellow food colouring and a pinch of salt, showing the liquid part that carries nutrients and hormones.
Red blood cells came to life with red food colouring and Cheerios, demonstrating how oxygen is transported around the body.
White blood cells were symbolised by mini marshmallows, highlighting their role in fighting infection.
Platelets were mimicked by pom poms, helping students understand how blood clots to heal wounds.
The classroom buzzed with excitement as students worked as a team, discussing the roles of each part. Not only did they have a great time, but they also gained a deeper understanding of how blood works to keep our bodies healthy.
A brilliant blend of science and creativity—well done, Year 6!
