EYFS

Welcome to Early Years at Springdale Primary School
At Springdale, we believe that the Early Years Foundation Stage is the beginning of an exciting learning journey. Our nurturing environment is designed to spark curiosity, encourage independence, and build strong foundations for lifelong learning. Through play-based experiences and purposeful teaching, we help every child develop socially, emotionally, and academically, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and ready to thrive.

We work in partnership with families to create a warm, inclusive community where every child’s individuality is celebrated. Together, we lay the stepping stones for confident, happy learners who are prepared for the next stage of their education.

Our EYFS provision gives every child the best possible start to their learning journey. Guided by the national EYFS framework, we focus on developing the whole child—socially, emotionally, and academically—through play-based learning and purposeful teaching.

We nurture curiosity and independence across seven key areas of learning:

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical Development

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Our Early Years provision is fully inclusive, ensuring that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive the support they need from the very start of their learning journey. Through early identification, personalised support, and high-quality teaching, we ensure that all children—whatever their starting point—can achieve their full potential.

We work closely with families and external professionals to create tailored strategies that meet individual needs, while promoting equality and celebrating diversity. Our environment is designed to be accessible, nurturing, and responsive, so every child feels valued, safe, and confident to explore and learn.

Building Strong Foundations Through Partnership
At Springdale Primary School, we know that every child’s journey is unique. To ensure a smooth and supportive transition into our Early Years, we carry out home visits and visit pre-school providers before children start school. These visits help us:

  • Gather important information about each child’s development and needs,

  • Identify any additional support that may be required,

  • Build strong home–school links,

  • Understand children’s interests and experiences.

Within the first four weeks of starting in our Early Years, we carry out an in-school baseline assessment. This helps us:

  • Identify each child’s strengths and areas for development,

  • Plan personalised next steps for learning,

  • Ensure that every child receives the right support to thrive.

Combined with information from home visits and pre-school providers, this approach allows us to create a tailored, engaging curriculum that meets the needs and interests of every child.
